WHAT IS THEOSOPHY ?
The word Theosophy is derived from the Greek THEOS (god) and SOPHIA
(wisdom)which can be translated as Divine Wisdom, Wisdom Religion or in the
modern interpretation as Ageless Wisdom. The word Theosophy has been in use for
centuries.
Theosophy examines the underlying elements of basic
wisdom or thought of various religious teachings that have been important in
the development of humankind. This examination does not seek to draw anyone
away from the religion that he or she belongs to, but to give a rational
explanation and interpretation of the inner meanings of the creeds and
ceremonies of religion.
Cardiff Theosophical Society has a more specific
definition of Theosophy
in relation to the study of the Theosophical Teachings
Theosophy is not a religion since is has no dogma,
creed, or ritual.

It is only by the attractive force of the contrasts
that the two opposites — Spirit and Matter — can be cemented together on

themselves wedded in Eternity.

It is the motive, and the motive alone, which makes
any exercise of power become black, malignant, or white, beneficent Magic. It is
impossible to employ spiritual forces if there is the slightest tinge of selfishness
remaining in the operator .... The powers and forces of animal nature can
equally be used by the selfish and revengeful, as by the unselfish and the
all-forgiving; the powers and forces of spirit lend themselves only to the
perfectly pure in heart — and this is Divine Magic.
